The 365 Day Mission

What is the 365 Day Mission?

At it's most basic it is a commitment to pick up my camera and take at least one picture each day, but it is more than that.  It is an attempt to tap into creativity. To improve my skills as a photographer. It is a commitment to seeing the world.

How do we all go through our days? We get up, we go to school or work. We do all the many little things that each day requires. Little cogs, pushing along the big cogs, propelling us through our lives. One day we look up and years have gone by.  How often do we pause and look around us? Not often enough I think. So in part, this is an attempt to pause, look above the books I am reading, beyond the steps in front of me and to look out at the world. To take it in - to pause.

We all need to pause now and then - maybe even each day.

Seeing the world is also about seeing the beauty in our everyday lives. What about the beauty in our everyday lives? The flowers that grow on the interstate on ramp? The light that hits the side of your office, that you see each day but don't appreciate. Even the sight of our families - it is so easy to overlook.

We take cameras with us when we go on vacation, when we go to an attraction, when we attend all those little ceremonies that mark time in our lives - birthdays, weddings, graduations.  In taking a photo each day I hope to also document those everyday moments we overlook. To take pleasure in the ordinary - not to gratify mundanity, but to appreciate the beauty that permeates our lives.

In short I hope to pause, look, and embrace my life.  One photo and day at a time.
